I love having animals all around, all the time. Wild dogs, lazy cows, golden eagles, water buffalo, camels, bats, pigs, whatever may come, they are all woven into the fabric of everyday urban life. It’s always amazing to see these creatures everywhere we go.

However, we are just as amazed by what we do not see:

Dung.

Honestly, I can’t recall having to step over a single cow patty or doggie doo since we got here. And maybe this house is part of the reason why.

The story that goes with this photo is so good that only Pam can write it. Stay tuned.

Prickly Pear

While we waited for the chicken to cook, we walked with a gaggle of kids and their various parents so they could show us the crops they were growing: corn, mulberry, coriander, and much more. Along the way they pulled these prickly pears from some trees and ate them. Beautiful things, but mine had some prickles still in it after it was opened; my tongue was sore for 15 minutes. Life is terribly difficult.

No, seriously. Ten minutes after this photo was taken, this chicken was bled, plucked, and in a pan. As you will see when you click through the slides above :)
